About this report
This report was produced during a CRGD summer internship under the supervision of a research fellow. It is published as an example of the kind of practical, small scale research that interns carry out.
Aims
- To document the route that household waste takes from the doorstep to its final destination in one urban ward.
- To understand the roles of the people involved, from households to collection workers to the local government.
- To identify points in the system where improvements could be made at low cost.
Methods
- Walking surveys of collection routes with the consent of collection workers
- Short structured interviews with a sample of households
- Interviews with collection workers, ward representatives and local government staff
- Review of the local government’s published plans and budgets for waste management
