Elections, Narratives and Perceptions

How citizens form political opinions, how elections are fought, and how narratives, media and misinformation shape public perceptions of policy.

Public policy is shaped by what people believe as much as by what is true. This vertical studies elections, political communication and public opinion, and the space between evidence and perception.

Why it matters

Kerala has high turnout and a highly engaged electorate. Political messages now travel through television, newspapers, social media and messaging groups, often in Malayalam, and often faster than they can be checked. Understanding how opinions form helps policymakers communicate honestly and helps citizens evaluate what they hear.

How we work

  • Electoral analysis. We analyse published election results and turnout over time.
  • Narrative studies. We track how specific policy issues are framed in media and politics.
  • Information integrity. We study misinformation and the effectiveness of responses to it.
  • Survey research. We design and publish surveys with full methodology and data.

All survey work follows CRGD’s research standards, including publication of questionnaires, sampling methods, and margins of error.

Questions we are asking

  1. 01

What do voters in Kerala care about when they choose, and how is that changing?

  2. 02

How do policy debates become political narratives, and what is lost along the way?

  3. 03

How does misinformation spread in Malayalam, and what slows it down?

  4. 04

How can opinion surveys be made more transparent and more reliable?
