The Mock Assembly simulates a sitting of a state legislature. Participants are assigned roles in a ruling coalition, an opposition and as independent members. They debate a draft bill, propose amendments in committee and vote.

The exercise teaches the craft of legislation: the importance of definitions, the trade offs in any policy, and the difficulty and value of compromise.
