Dialogue
Kerala Dialogues: Growth and Welfare
A series of small, structured dialogues between people who disagree about how Kerala should balance economic growth and welfare spending.
Debates about growth and welfare in Kerala are often conducted as if the two were opposites. The Kerala Dialogues bring together economists, trade unionists, business leaders, civil society organisations and elected representatives of different parties to explore where they agree, where they genuinely disagree and why.
How the dialogues work
- Each session has no more than twenty participants.
- A short background paper is circulated a week in advance.
- Discussions follow the Chatham House Rule.
- A neutral facilitator ensures every perspective is heard.
- A summary of points of agreement and disagreement is published afterwards, without attribution.
