World Environment Day Dialogue: Living with a Changing Coast
A dialogue held in a coastal community, bringing fishworkers, local representatives, engineers and researchers together to discuss erosion and protection.
This dialogue was held in a coastal community rather than in a conference hall, so that the people most affected by coastal change could speak first.
Fishworkers described the changes they had seen on their stretch of coast. Engineers explained the options for coastal protection and their limits. Local representatives spoke about the difficulty of planning when decisions are taken elsewhere.
A note of the discussion, in Malayalam and English, was shared with participants and informed CRGD’s later writing on the coast.
